Point Of View

          A Different Point of View
We would have often heard that other people’s point of view can be different from ours. Their way of looking at a situation can be different, their approach to solve a problem can be -contrary to us. Their opinions can be different. And in life, we should accept others opinions too. Sometimes small children can also teach us how to think and analyze things differently.

One day when I was teaching in one of my class, after finishing the lesson I advised them to read books and get them issued from the school library. One of the girls sitting on the second bench told me that they have a book right now and it is about the three girlfriends. And I immediately replied, “I know the story, two girls were best friends and when the third girl came in between their friendship was broken and one girl suffered (I was remembering my past).” But the girl replied, “no mam, new girl was not the reason of their broken friendship. It was a bad boy in the class that was the reason of her all problems.” Now I wanted to read that book. I borrowed it from the girl and read it. The story was same as I had expected, but the interpretation of the story was different by that girl.

She analyzed the story in a very different manner, may be even an elder won’t be able to do that and taught me to think from a different point of view about a common situation or problem.

Whatif

Whatif... We all have some whatif's in our life, like whatif I fail in my exams, whatif I don't get a good job, whatif our loved one's leaves us etc... . These are some of the fears of all grown-ups that can never go away from our life.
Once I was teaching a poem named "Whatif" in class VI. Before beginning the poem, I asked students to tell some of their Whatif's in their life. The students were more than eager to reply. And I was amused to listen to their answers as they were contrary to the poet of the poem. Their answers were full of positivity. And I have to explain to them that in this poem the poet wants to discuss the fears and worries of our day-to-day life through his negative thoughts. I was happy to see that how small kids are full of positivity in their life.
I was going to start the poem when a girl wanted to reply the question I asked in the beginning of the class. She said, "whatif my friends talk to me?" And as a teacher, I corrected her and said, "you are wrong dear, the statement should be Whatif my friends don't talk to me." But then she said that they don't talk to her. I was shocked and sad to listen to her that how she was longing to have her friends talk to her. When I asked her the reason, she said that they are angry with her.  Some girls said that Mam, she is a bad girl and always disturbs us in the class, that's why we don't want to be her friends. I told her not to do so. Later, I came to know about her broken family and  understood that how much she needs extra care and attention of her friends and teachers.
Three lessons I learned that day :
  • Be positive in life.
  • Don't be quick to rectify others.
  • Healthy family environment plays an important role in a child's life.
